Star Lake Diatomaceous Earth consists of 100% pure (di-a-toe-may-shus) diatomaceous earth from a fresh water source. It is a fine, white powder with no clay contaminants. It consists of a siliceous skeletal material derived from a specific type of fresh water species of fossilized microscopic one-celled algae called “a diatom”, which is very rich in silica and has a distinctive structure. Aside from being pure, it is extremely important to note that it has an alkaline pH range varying between 7.5 – 9. It is well known for its consistent quality, performance and smooth texture because of its remarkably uniform particle structure and categorization to ensure a median particle size of 10 microns and median pore diameter of 1.2 microns. The smaller median particle size and pore diameter allows for the binding of smaller particles to the diatom.
Star Lake Diatomaceous Earth is classified as a natural amorphous diatomaceous earth because it contains NO additives or clay contaminants and HAS NOT been heated to high temperatures, which would change its natural structure. This product can be utilized in both the organic and conventional feed, grain and livestock industries. The manufacturer certifies that this product is in compliance with the Food Chemicals Codex monograph properties, classifying it as a Food Chemical Codex Grade.
Pure diatomaceous earth is approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency as a single feed ingredient, (Schedule IV, Part 1, Class 8.16), utilizing international feed registration # 8-09-363. This product has been utilized in Canada since 1992.
